How to Calm Your Nervous System with Wrist Meditation

When you feel anxious, stressed, or overwhelmed, your body often reacts before you have time to think about what is happening.

Your breathing changes. Your muscles tighten. Your thoughts speed up.

This is why I teach my clients Wrist Meditation, a quick and simple technique that combines touch, breathing, and focused intention to help calm the mind and body.

Why the Wrist?

Just below the palm are three meridian points commonly used in acupressure: P6, H7, and L9.

Rather than focusing on one individual point, Wrist Meditation uses the entire area by gently covering the wrist just below the palm. This makes the technique simple and easy to use anywhere.

There is nothing complicated to remember, and it only takes a few moments.

How to Practice Wrist Meditation

Before you begin, notice how you feel. On a scale from 0 to 10, how would you rate your current level of stress, anxiety, or emotional intensity?

Then:

  1. Gently wrap one hand around the opposite wrist, just below the palm, covering the three meridian points.

  2. Slowly breathe in for a count of four.

  3. As you exhale, think or softly say the word “Relax.”

  4. Repeat for three slow breaths.

When you finish, check your number again.

Most people notice that they feel calmer after just a few breaths. You may also notice your breathing has slowed, your body feels less tense, or your thoughts are not moving quite as quickly.

Practice Throughout the Day

The real benefit of Wrist Meditation comes from using it regularly, not only when you are already overwhelmed.

I encourage my clients to practice it throughout the day. It is quick enough to use almost anywhere, at your desk, before a meeting, while sitting in your car, or before going to bed.

With regular practice, you are teaching yourself to pause and return to a calmer state instead of remaining caught in an automatic stress response.

The more often you practice regulating yourself throughout the day, the easier it can become to stay better regulated throughout the day.

Wrist Meditation is one of the techniques I teach as part of Intention-Based Meditation, helping people build awareness, interrupt automatic patterns, and become more intentional about how they respond to stress.

Sometimes you don't need twenty minutes to reset.

Sometimes you just need three breaths.

When Worrying About Sleep Makes It Harder to Sleep

If you have struggled with sleep for a while, you may notice that the anxiety begins before you even get into bed.

You start wondering:

Will I be able to sleep tonight?
What if I wake up again?
How am I going to function tomorrow?

Before you know it, bedtime itself has become stressful.

When Sleep Becomes Something You Try to Force

Sleep is supposed to be a time when the mind and body relax. But worrying about whether you will sleep can keep your nervous system activated, the exact opposite of what you want when trying to rest.

Then you get into bed and the thinking begins.

You remember something you need to do tomorrow. You replay a conversation. You think about a problem you need to solve.

One simple strategy I often suggest is writing it down.

Most of the things running through your mind at bedtime do not need to be handled at that exact moment. Putting them on paper can reassure your mind that you do not have to remember everything right now. You can come back to it tomorrow.

Practice Calming Your Nervous System During the Day

Don't wait until bedtime to start trying to relax.

Learning meditation and practicing nervous system regulation throughout the day can help your body become more familiar with returning to a calmer state.

I teach my clients Wrist Meditation, a simple technique they can practice throughout the day to interrupt stress and reconnect with a sense of calm.

The more you practice regulation when you are awake, the easier it can become to access that calmer state when it is time to rest.

Stop Fighting Being Awake

Not everyone sleeps in one uninterrupted block every night.

If you wake up and cannot fall back asleep, becoming frustrated or watching the clock can create even more anxiety.

Instead of fighting it, consider getting up and doing something quiet. Read for a while, meditate, or simply relax until you begin feeling sleepy again.

Sometimes removing the pressure to “I have to fall asleep right now” is exactly what helps the mind and body settle down.

At Inner Soundness, hypnosis, meditation, and nervous system regulation techniques can help you develop healthier patterns around stress, overthinking, and sleep.

Sometimes better sleep begins before your head ever touches the pillow.

How Hypnosis Can Help You Build Lasting Self-Confidence

Confidence isn't something you're born with. It's something you develop through your experiences, beliefs, and the way you see yourself.

If you've struggled with self-doubt, it's easy to believe you'll never feel truly confident. But confidence isn't about pretending to be fearless. It's about changing the patterns that keep telling you you're not enough.

Many people develop low self-confidence after experiences such as criticism, rejection, failure, or constantly comparing themselves to others. Over time, these experiences can create subconscious beliefs that influence how you think, feel, and respond to everyday situations.

This is where hypnosis can help.

Hypnosis creates a relaxed, focused state that allows you to work with the subconscious mind, where many automatic thoughts, beliefs, and emotional responses are stored. Instead of simply trying to think more positively, hypnosis helps you identify and change the patterns that contribute to self-doubt.

As these patterns begin to shift, many people notice they become more comfortable speaking up, making decisions, trying new experiences, and trusting themselves. Confidence grows naturally because it is no longer being held back by old emotional conditioning.

At Inner Soundness, hypnosis is combined with intention-based meditation and other mind-body techniques to help clients develop greater self-awareness, regulate their nervous system, and build lasting confidence from the inside out.

Imagine approaching new opportunities without constantly questioning yourself. Instead of worrying about being perfect, you begin to trust your abilities and recognize your own value.

If you're ready to build lasting self-confidence, we're here to help. We offer both in-person hypnosis sessions in Denver and virtual sessions for clients wherever they are.

Lasting confidence doesn't come from changing who you are. It comes from letting go of the patterns that have been holding you back.

Why You Don't Feel Good Enough (And How to Change That)

Have you ever felt like no matter how hard you try, it still isn't enough? Maybe you compare yourself to others, question your abilities, or feel like you're always falling short.

If you've had these thoughts, you're not alone.

The feeling of not being good enough is often rooted in experiences that shaped how you see yourself. Childhood criticism, rejection, unrealistic expectations, difficult relationships, or painful life events can leave lasting emotional impressions. Over time, those experiences can become subconscious beliefs that influence the way you think, feel, and respond to everyday situations.

The challenge is that these beliefs often operate in the background. You may assume they're facts, even though they're simply learned patterns. They can affect your confidence, relationships, career, and overall happiness without you realizing it.

The encouraging news is that learned beliefs can be changed.

The first step is becoming aware of the story you've been telling yourself. Once you recognize that your thoughts are based on past experiences rather than your true worth, you can begin creating new, healthier patterns. Techniques such as hypnosis and intention-based meditation can help you work with the subconscious mind to reduce self-doubt and strengthen self-confidence.

Imagine approaching life without constantly questioning whether you're enough. Instead of measuring your value by other people's opinions or unrealistic expectations, you begin to trust yourself and recognize your strengths.

At Inner Soundness, we help clients identify and change the emotional patterns that keep them feeling stuck in self-doubt. As those patterns begin to shift, many people discover a greater sense of confidence, peace, and emotional freedom.

You were never meant to spend your life trying to prove your worth. The moment you begin believing in yourself is the moment you create space for lasting growth, healing, and a more fulfilling life.
